Feature Friday No. 1

Be patient, be inclusive, be kind.

Benveet Gill

Meet Benveet Gill, she is a woman of strength, resilience and determination. After being paralyzed from her waist down, Gill was inspired to open the ReYu Paralysis Recovery Center in Edmonton where her goals are to change the world, enhance neuroscience recovery and end the stigma around having a disability. Gill shared her experience with navigating through Edmonton and how the Sagitta device would enhance her ease of travel in a wheelchair. She faces constant barriers such as a lack of snow removal and high curbs that make doing everyday activities such as going to the gym difficult and sometimes impossible on her own.

The sagitta device would allow wheelchair users to be aware of plowed routes, closed sidewalks and other transportation barriers to better assist them in navigating through the city. Gill also emphasized the importance of the data that this new device will deliver to those who have the power to make changes to the cities level of accessibility in the infrastructure. Graphs, numbers and evidence will further advocate for those who are often overlooked when considering accessibility. This device has the opportunity to enhance the quality of life of those who experience disability and difficulty travelling. The sagitta device will help those like Gill to live a life with better ease of transportation and accessibility.
